In North Cumbria, we are working alongside the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) School of Medicine to offer a series of short courses leading to Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma and Masters for practitioners working within integrated healthcare teams.  This will help clinicians and managers to develop and enhance their portfolio career, or diversify their current role.

The programme also allows practitioners to convert their previous study into academic credits towards a postgraduate award.  The short video above and flowchart below give an overview of how, in North Cumbria, you can use your existing CPD training to gain academic qualifications.

How Does It Work?

In order to be recognised, you will be asked to show how the prior learning relates to improvement in your practice and undergo a formative and summative assessment by UCLan.

Any prior learning can be considered from the last 10 years, but it must be relevant to your current role and fit into one of the following CPD "Shells":

  1. Communication
  2. Leadership
  3. Practice Skills
  4. Professional Issues
  5. Mental Health
  6. Public Health
  7. Planning
  8. Response

The maximum credit for prior learning that UCLan can offer is 2/3rds of the total credit required for the award.

For More Information

Events which meet UCLan's criteria for CPD accreditation and can, therefore, help you gain further qualifications, are now highlighted on the CLIC website.  These events undergo an initial quality check by UCLan to ensure that they are high level practice informed, are research based and are delivered by the right calibre of people.  They are then reviewed annually to ensure that they are still up to date, and have been innovated in some way to respond to any changes during the last year.
