On 26th January 2021, more than 20 colleagues from across health and care in North Cumbria completed their Ambassador training.

The two-day programme was coordinated by Jennifer McCall (Specialist Advisor for Inclusion, North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust) in partnership with CLIC, and delivered by Show Racism the Red Card. It offered a comprehensive look at the issues surrounding race and equality, current legislation, and hate crime, and aimed to really challenge mind-sets, ultimately giving delegates the tools to recognise unacceptable behaviours and promote inclusion.

One of the attendees said:

“I have attended many courses on Diversity and Equality over the years and hands down this was the best. Justine and Jake were excellent trainers who were highly knowledgeable and very relatable… It will help me develop my knowledge base as well as inform the work I am doing… Cannot recommend this course highly enough”

A key component of the programme was the concept of allyship. As described by Franchesca Ramsey (@chescaleigh) in the video below, allyship is about listening to the communities you want to support and actively taking action in doing so – ‘ally’ is a verb, a doing word:

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the programme, and hope the learning from it will be used to make a positive difference in our local health and care system.

It is planned that this programme will run again in the future, so if you would like to express your interest and be notified of dates when they are available, please get in touch with us: info@theclic.org.uk
