What is mindfulness and why practice it?:
The Mindfulness Association describe mindfulness as a skill we can develop over time, which can deepen our sense of well-being and fulfilment. “It involves paying attention to what is occurring in our present moment experience, with an attitude of openness and non-judgemental acceptance. It is about coming back to our senses, being in touch with ourselves, with others and our surroundings.”
It promotes a way of being that helps us to take better care of ourselves and lead healthier lives. It also enables us to access inner resources for coping effectively with stress, difficulty and illness.
Possible benefits may be as follows:
Reduced tension, anxiety, stress, reactivity, improve communication, decision making, increase the ability to manage conflict, enhance clarity and creative thinking, achieve balance and develop resilience at home and at work, increase concentration, improve energy levels, promote physical and mental well-being.
The Mindfulness Based Living Course:
The Mindfulness Based Living Course is an eight week course consisting of eight classes, which are typically two hours long, preceded by an introductory class before the eight week course begins. A day of Mindfulness practice is also typically included and will be used as a follow up one month after the 8-week course ends.

Criteria for participation:
Participant attends an introductory session, agrees to participate in a minimum of 6 of the 8 weekly sessions and has the option of attending the follow up day of mindfulness.
Participants will also be required to participate in 30 minutes of daily practice throughout the duration of the 8-week course, as well as filling out pre and post-intervention questionnaires to measure the effectiveness of the course.
