Globally we are faced with an unprecedented rise in obesity, diabetes, cancer, dementia and other lifestyle and diet-related diseases. To address this surge in non-communicable diseases (NCD), we aim to explore innovative strategies for promoting lifestyle changes and healthful eating.
The American College of Lifestyle Medicine defines ‘Lifestyle Medicine’ as the use of a whole food, plant predominant dietary lifestyle, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances and positive social connection as primary therapeutic modalities for prevention, treatment and reversal of chronic disease.
This workshop aims to empower managers, leaders, clinicians, social prescribers and health and wellbeing advocates to role model a collaborative culture of cooking more at home using whole food, plant based ingredients. In this session attendees will be given the information and practical skills they need to begin optimising the way they perceive food. This session aims to shift the focus away from discussions about nutrients in terms of carbs / vitamins / counting calories, towards practical discussions about real food. By the end of this session, learners will be equipped with knowledge and tools they need for health promoting culinary behaviours.
